Wasps and a Chameleon invade the University of Manchester’s SU Theatre

Ahead of playing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Wasps and Chameleon will be hosting a one-off work-in-progress preview at the University of Manchester Students’ Union’s theatre.

Wasps

Four women. Wasps. Cupboards made of cardboard. Wasp jokes. A kitchen that isn’t quite a kitchen. Alma, Connie, Dana, and Beth are living together in their forties, in the wake of failed marriages and career compromises, they try to look towards the next parts of their lives. It wasn’t part of the plan to find their way back to each other.

In their cosily surreal house, they navigate relationships, love and the occasional run-in with doggers – but as an incessant buzzing begins to taunt them, patience wears thin and, soon, something has to break.

This bold new play is written and directed by Jenifer Hosking and Flora Scutt.

Chameleon

Embarking on a journey of self-discovery following her autism diagnosis, Chameleon grapples with the complexities of love, identity and – most importantly – soggy chips. Reeled in by Snake’s intoxicating charm and irresistible jawline, she soon learns that conversation is a delicate and sometimes deadly dance.

As she gets lost in the rhythm of the Concrete Jungle, the sound becomes too much and Chameleon wonders… is everything meant to be this complicated?

Written and directed by Jess Telling, Chameleon reimagines the turbulence of her neurodivergent experience with dry humour, techno beats and the triumph of embracing one’s true colours.

The work-in-progress preview of Wasps x Chameleon runs at the University of Manchester’s SU Theatre on June 13 at the early time on 3pm. The plays then transferr to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Wasps and Chameleon then run at Paradise in the Vault from August 12 to 17.
