Quadruple GRAMMY®-winning progressive pop duo for KING + COUNTRY took to the stage, bringing their celebrated A Drummer Boy Christmas Tour to indigo at The O2 for two consecutive nights. These were the band’s first London concerts, and they certainly put on a show.
This was my very first time at indigo – a more intimate venue that doesn’t pull the punches on production value.
The booming drums punctuating each song mixed with the flashing neon lights and disco balls read more rave than Christian Pop Duo. Unexpected but certainly entertaining!
As a non-Christian, I was worried I wouldn’t be the target audience for the show – but between edgy renditions of well-known carols I’ve only sung in choir and original songs prefaced by moments of being invited into the lives of the brothers who make up the band, there was a bit of something for everyone.
The energy was electric, with the audience on their feet for most of the show, with Joel and Luke walking through the crown, high-fiving adoring fans.
With repetition, the original meaning of carols can be lost, a song to sing without much consideration for the meaning. But if I took away one thing from the show, it’s how much weight FOR KING + COUNTRY brought back to the lyrics, though their musical choices and performances which screamed “I live and breath these words”.
While Christian Pop may not be to everyone’s taste, and their stories may not land with more secular audiences, you cannot deny that these two really know how to put on a spectacular performance that raises the spirit with its energy and sincerity.
for KING + COUNTRY are ending their A Drummer Boy Christmas Tour at Opry House, Nashville, Tennessee, US, where they play over four consecutive nights from December 17 to 20.
